Farhang & Medcoff Adds Bankruptcy to Practice Areas

Farhang & Medcoff is excited to add a bankruptcy practice to meet the growing needs of its clients. Effective January 1, 2018, the Tucson law firm of Smith & Smith will join F&M, bringing bankruptcy, workout and restructuring expertise to the team.

Farhang & Medcoff currently provides a wide range of business representation including commercial litigation, corporate and securities, finance, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, banking, trusts and estates, insurance coverage and defense, intellectual property, labor and employment, products liability, and personal injury defense.

“Adding a bankruptcy group makes us an even more complete law firm for businesses of every size,” said Ali Farhang, co-founding partner at F&M. “We pride ourselves on building strong business relationships with our clients, and we want to be there for everything they need.”

Three attorneys from Smith & Smith will be joining F&M. John Smith, who started the firm with his father, Gerald K. Smith, will join the firm as a partner. Cody D. Vandewerker and Eli Enger will be joining F&M as associates. Gerald K. Smith, having practiced for more than 50 years, will retire.

John Smith is a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Washington. He earned his Juris Doctor from Arizona State University. He previously worked with firms in Phoenix and Alaska.

Robert Garcia Named Partner At Farhang & Medcoff

Farhang & Medcoff is pleased to announce that Robert Garcia has been named a partner at the firm.

Garcia is one of the region's best young lawyers having earned multiple ratings as a Southwest Rising Star by Super Lawyers, an independent rating service that ranks lawyers based on research, peer nominations and peer evaluations.  Garcia was rated by Super Lawyers for his work as an employment and labor attorney.

Garcia earned his law degree at Boston College. He holds a bachelor of arts in political science and religious studies from the University of Arizona.

He joined Farhang & Medcoff in February 2011. His practice focuses on employment and commercial litigation matters, although he advises clients in various other areas including, business disputes, personal injury matters, and appellate matters.

The Tucson-based law firm of Farhang & Medcoff has been named to the 2018 Best Law Firms list by U.S. News and World Reports, which ranks law firms based on peer reviews and surveys conducted by the national publication.

One of the criteria for selection is having an attorney ranked in the current U.S. News – Best Lawyers® ranking. Both founding partners, Ali Farhang and Timothy Medcoff, were ranked as Best Lawyers earlier this year. The firm was ranked as a Tier 2 Best Law Firm in commercial transactions and UCC law for the region.

“This is a tremendous honor for our firm and all the attorneys who put in the hard work for our clients,” said Farhang, a native Tucsonan and graduate of the University of Arizona. Farhang earned his undergraduate degree from the UA and his law degree from the University of Denver.

The firm was founded by the two partners in 2008 and has grown into one Arizona's leading law firms with 18 attorneys. It also has an office in Scottsdale.

Its practice areas are commercial litigation, insurance coverage/defense, product liability and personal injury defense, intellectual property, labor and employment, estates and trusts, and corporate, finance, real estate and investment.

Meredith K. Marder has been selected as one of Arizona's top 100 attorneys and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from America's Top 100 Attorneys®, a firm that recognizes attorneys based on their overall legal careers and accomplishments.

Marder joined Farhang & Medcoff in 2014 and has also been named as a Southwest Super Lawyers Rising Star each year since 2014.

America's Top 100 Attorneys® selects candidates for recognition through third-party research and peer nominations before putting their careers through a screening process with proprietary algorithms that assess a broad array of criteria and data. The award recognizes “exceptional advocacy, success, ethical standards and legal accomplishments.” The organization states, “Less than 0.5% of active attorneys in the United States receive this honor.”

“This recognition is further validation that Meredith is one of the top attorneys in our state and our region,” said Ali Farhang, founding partner at Farhang & Medcoff. “We are extremely fortunate to have her working for our clients and our community.”

Marder is a 2009 graduate cum laude from the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. She practices in the areas of business/corporate law and commercial real estate, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. She advises business clients on issues including entity formation, private equity financing, joint ventures, corporate governance, contract negotiation, and the purchase and sale of businesses.  She also assists real estate clients with matters ranging from commercial leasing to multi-property acquisitions.

In 2009, she was awarded the Lillian S. Fisher Prize in Environmental Law and Public Policy from the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy for her article, The Battle to Save the Verde: How Arizona's Water Law Could Destroy One of its Last Free-Flowing Rivers.

F&M Adds Attorney for Commercial Real Estate

Traci Riccitello has joined Farhang & Medcoff bringing nearly two decades of experience in commercial real estate transactions to one of Arizona's leading business law firms.

Riccitello has been an attorney at a prominent Arizona law firm and has also had her own practice during a career that began in 1996. She holds a bachelor's degree in marketing communications from Bowling Green State University, and a master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Arizona. She also earned her law degree at the UA.

“We welcome Traci's expertise in commercial real estate transactions and her focus on retail and commercial leasing,” said firm founder and partner Timothy Medcoff. “She gives us another level of experience that will allow us to serve our clients professionally and with the highest level of expertise.”

Amelie Bredas Messingham joined Farhang & Medcoff as a partner to bolster its practice in banking, commercial finance and real estate finance. Messingham brings more than 10 years of experience advising regional and national institutional lenders with respect to real estate and commercial loan transactions, including construction financing, long-term financing for income-producing properties, loan sales, restructures, and workouts. In addition to her commercial finance practice, Messingham represents corporate clients in purchase and sale transactions involving retail projects and portfolios. Originally from Belgium, Messingham earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and earned her law degree at the University of Georgia. She was recognized as a Southwest Super Lawyers Rising Star in the banking category from 2014 to 2017. She was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 2006.
